Courtyard Garden, Brook Green

The brief for the 6 x 6 metre courtyard garden of this elegantly renovated Edwardian house was to create an inviting, scented, sheltered outdoor room with storage and room for an outdoor dining table to seat up to six people.

The garden was paved in elegant clay bricks from Belgium to allow maximum space for planting and sitting. A handsome galvanised zinc water fountain is a seductive focal point under the dappled shelter of Schefflera taiwaniana, a beautiful evergreen shrub with a slim arching habit and elegant long fingered leaves. The planting is mostly evergreen with a restrained palette of green white and purple. The hardwood Iroko fencing is softened with scented Trachelsospermum jasminoides and clouds of the unusual mauve-tinged Solanum laxum ‘Coldham’ .

‘The garden Non designed combined everything we were looking for along with plenty of things we simply hadn’t thought about and which have made the garden a pleasure to sit in at any time of the year. Her knowledge of plants was outstanding and as a result our garden has interest in every season’
